We meet at the McClure Auditorium in the SRQ complex. Off US 41 N, turn East on General Spaatz Blvd (by the Shell gas station) and then turn left after the gravel parking lot on your left. You'll see the auditorium and parking just ahead and to your right. Park, then come on in and join us. ( Location Map ) Your involvement in providing ideas and topics for monthly meeting programs is very important to providing programs which you feel are relevant. Additionally, there will be a chapter update including the date for the next Cookout and status of our application for a $10k Ray Aviation Scholarship. We hope to see you there. If you have been around the airport lately or read the news, you know that our hometown airport SRQ is growing and has become one of the fastest growing airports of its size in the country. You have also probably noticed a lot of work being done on the field, in particular on the north side. We are very pleased to have all this and more explained to us by our guest speaker Lionel A. Guilbert the Manager of Airport Operations at SRQ. Lionel has been at SRQ for many years and is the hands-on lead for the day to day activity at SRQ. Lionel will explain to us what an FAA Part 139 means from a staffing and operations perspective. He will also explain the Airport Layout Plan and how it depicts future growth and development. There are several projects beginning soon that will impact all users of SRQ and will hold some exciting prospects for General Aviation. Our brief business meeting will start at 7:00 followed by a short break followed by our program. This is one meeting you will not want to miss. Eighty airplanes flew in. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lA64xneOuik ======================================================== No November 27, 2019 Meeting “Bahamas Fly Out” EAA180 Jt Nov/Dec Member Meeting Wednesday, December 4th, 2019 Our next Monthly Member Meeting of EAA180 will be Wednesday, December 4 th , 2019, 7:00 pm at McClure Auditorium. After a short business meeting, there will be a refreshment break, followed by our special presentation. Our speaker will be Dave Harvey, VP of EAA Chapter 282 at Clearwater Airpark (KCLW) in Clearwater, FL. An active pilot for more than 40 years, Dave holds CFI and CFII certificates. He has been the Coordinator of the Young Eagles program at KCLW and has flown to the Bahamas many times in the past 20 years. Dave will speak to us about his participation in the “Bahamas Fly Out” organized by Sun N Fun earlier this year. There were about 18 airplanes that left Sun N Fun and flew first to Grand Bahama and then “island hopped” for the next few days before returning home. He has created a Power Point presentation of the trip and he’ll be sharing his personal experiences. Sun N Fun is planning another Fly Out to the Bahamas in 2020 and he wants to encourage EAA180 members to participate in this fun event. So come and enjoy his Presentation and bring any and all questions you may have about participating next year in this fun “island hopping” event. Members and guests encouraged to come. See you there!!! ===================================================== EAA 180 October Member Meeting “Good Pilots are always Learning” Wednesday, October 23 rd 7:00pm McClure Auditorium SRQ Several years ago, when I was with the Illinois Division of Aeronautics, we held Wings Weekends. Volunteer CFIs would donate their time and work with pilots to earn a WINGS phase and satisfy a flight review. A variety of instructors and pilots would show up with widely varied experience and currency, all with the same goal of becoming better and safer pilots. Blending into the crowd a gentleman showed up with a Baron looking to earn a WINGS phase and to also learn from others. Much to our total amazement that pilot was astronaut Jim Lovell of Apollo 13 fame. Jim attended our WINGS weekends for many years and was the first to acknowledge that good pilots are always learning and gathering knowledge. ===================================================== SRQ 9th Annual Pilot/ATC Social Wednesday, November 6 th from 6:00 to 9:00 pm Holiday Inn Airport Once again EAA 180 is co-sponsoring this informative and fun event. We will be returning to our regular monthly chapter meeting starting in September. Many changes have occurred that impact our chapter and we urge you to attend this important meeting to learn about them and to voice your input as a member. There is exciting news from EAA on many potential changes that could occur soon for homebuilders and thousands of manufactured aircraft owners.
